Bedarra Island is approximately 10 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide, with a total area of 18 square kilometers.

The island is home to a variety of birds, including the rose-crowned fruit dove, red-tailed tropic bird, sooty oystercatcher and great bowerbird. There are also a number of reptiles on the island, such as the green tree snake, yellow-spotted monitor and eastern brown snake.

The island’s vegetation is predominantly tropical rainforest, with species such as stinging tree, rhino tree and paperbark tree.

Bedarra Island is a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming to enjoy the island’s secluded beaches, rainforest walks and snorkelling and diving opportunities.

How To Get To Bedarra Island

There are two ways to get to Bedarra Island – by boat and by helicopter.

Once you arrive at Mission Beach, a water taxi will can take you to your villa on Bedarra Island. You will typically be met on the beach where the local operators will take your luggage and show you to your villa.

There are two companies available to take you directly to Bedarra. Mission Beach Water Taxi departs from Wongaling Beach and is a fully enclosed, 10 metre vessel. Mission Beach Charters that departs from Clump Point.

Getting To Bedarra Island By Helicopter

The entire helicopter flight between Cairns and Bedarra Island Resort is around 45 minutes and gives you a bird’s eye view of the Great Barrier Reef, arriving directly on the helipad.

You are totally surrounded by the sounds of the ocean and there is nothing better than waking up and taking a refreshing swim in the clear waters. The beach hut also has a bathroom with toilet and shower, and a special outdoor shower with views of Dunk island. There is also laundry without a dryer as this entire retreat is eco friendly using only solar power and it also has both rain water and spring water.

Guests are welcomed with a bottle of chilled French champagne and your private hosts will be there to unpack all of your food provisions while you soak up the views of where you are. They will introduce you to the property and how everything works and then you are all alone unless you would like to see them.

The beach hut opens out onto a large expanding deck with a salt water plunge pool, an outdoor wood fire pizza oven, sun lounges, love lounge, and alfresco dining with a Webber BBQ.
