Daydream Island is one of seven islands of the Molle Group of islands which is part of the Whitsunday Islands Group, nestled in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Just one kilometre long and half a kilometre wide, Daydream Island is one of a few inhabited islands in the Whitsundays.
Daydream Island is the closest of the Whitsunday Islands to Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, lying just five kilometres from the mainland making it popular with day visitors.

Can you do a day trip to daydream island?
You can visit Daydream Island for a day trip. Visitors are able to travel to the Daydream via ferry departing Port of Airlie at 8.45am onwards. The last ferry departing Daydream Island leaves at 9pm back to Port of Airlie.

Can you swim in Daydream Island?

Daydream Island Living Reef
The Living Reef at Daydream Island Resort is a free form coral lagoon that wraps 200 metres around the central building on Daydream Island. The Living Reef is an underwater observatory and is home to over 100 species of marine life including fish, small sharks, rays and other reef dwelling creatures, coral and a variety of invertebrates such as starfish, sea cucumbers and crabs.
The Living Reef is 15 metres wide and holding over 1.5 million litres of fresh, filtered sea water. This man made reef system offers a range of ways you can get up close to our resident marine animals.
The Underwater Observatory takes you 4m under the surface and showcases a large 7 x 3m window where you can watch the marine life going about their day.
The Reef Education Centre has 8 living displays showcasing various habitats from mangroves to corals, a theater and an interactive touch pool.

No, unfortunately the swimming pools on Daydream Island Resort are not heated.
Getting to Daydream Island
To get to Daydream Island (formerly known as West Molle Island) you can fly direct to nearby Hamilton Island Great Barrier Reef Airport from most Australian cities and transfer to Daydream Island by ferry. Or fly into Proserpine/Whitsunday Coast Airport, travel by coach through Airlie Beach to Shute Harbour, and then by ferry over to Daydream Island.
Can you take your car to Daydream Island?
No, you can’t drive your car on Daydream Island. You’ll need to drive to Airlie Beach and park your car near the port and jump on the ferry to Daydream Island.
How long does it take to walk Daydream Island?
Daydream Island great for going for a short scenic walk. The island is approximately 1km from north to south and is about a 10 to 15-minute stroll.
Daydream Island also has some short walking trails that will allow you to explore the island and tropical gardens. A steep, rocky path that links the southern and northern ends of the island, takes about 20 minutes to walk.
