Located in the heart of the Whitsundays, South Molle Island is the largest of the North, Mid and South Molle Island Group and the only one with a resort. Located eight kilometres north-east of Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, South Molle is a picturesque, hilly continental island surrounded by fringing reefs.
Spend time alone strolling through cool forests to lookouts with spectacular views of The Whitsunday islands. The Molle Islands are virtually joined so you can walk across to Mid Molle almost anytime.

What Was South Molle Island Resort Like?
South Molle Island Resort was the sole resort operating on the island and provided a variety of accommodation choices to suit every size family. The resort was one of the many luxury resorts offering accommodation right on the Great Barrier Reef. The resort offered a variety of holiday packages from indulgent beachfront units, to reasonable family options and also provided a separate area for backpackers. With this variety available it made South Molle Island a popular choice for accommodation on the Whitsundays.
The Resort provided almost everything and there were optional island hopping and Barrier Reef tours available. Like most resort islands there was a maximum number of visitors allowed on the Island, ensuring you had a good time.
Superb scenery, climate, feasts, banquets and a-la-carte meals, and just about every conceivable activity were all in the one price. On land you could enjoy golf, day and night tennis, a workout in the gym or one of the many watersports.
South Molle Activities
Cruise to the outer reef. Great for snorkelling or diving. Trips to the underwater observatory on Hook Island are also available.
Visit Whitehaven beach on Whitsunday Island. On Sundays cruise to Hamilton Island. Seaplane and helicopter trips should not be missed, aerial reef views are unforgettable.
Go exploring in a dinghy or travel in style aboard Australia’s America Cup Challenger: “Gretel”. There is free use of fishing tackle from the Gift Shop.
On land you can enjoy golf, day and night tennis, squash, a workout in the gym or try your hand at archery. Watersports include sailboarding, sailing, paddle skis, parasailing, water skiing and jet skis.
The Island also offers daytime activities, as well as nightime & entertainment that varies throughtout the week. There are live bands most nights with resident musicians and mainland bands. Wednesday and Friday are the major nights, with Australiana night Wednesday. Polynesian floorshow on Fridays.
